Local planning
Adelaide install considerations
Coastal, hills and character suburb properties each bring their own constraints. These are the ones we plan around most often here.
Character stone and masonry homes
Solid stone and double-brick walls in Unley, Norwood and Prospect rarely allow a cavity run. We plan surface conduit on a discreet line, or core-drill where that gives the tidier result, and show you the route before anything is fixed.
Strata and apartment garages
Around Glenelg and the CBD fringe the parking bay is often in a shared basement. The charger has to be fed from your own lot's supply, and body corporate approval comes first — we prepare the documentation committees ask for.
Hills blocks and long cable runs
Homes around Stirling, Blackwood and Mount Barker often sit well back from the street with a detached garage. Cable size is set by voltage drop over that distance, not by the charger rating alone.
SA Power Networks approval
Chargers drawing more than 20A single-phase or 25A three-phase need SA Power Networks approval through their portal before installation. We handle that step as part of the job rather than leaving it to you.
Rooftop solar is everywhere in Adelaide
South Australia has some of the highest rooftop solar uptake in the country. A solar-aware charger diverts surplus generation into the car instead of exporting it, which is usually worth well more than the feed-in rate.
Coastal exposure on the western suburbs
At Henley Beach, Brighton and West Lakes salt air shapes where the unit goes. Where the layout allows we choose a sheltered wall, use outdoor-rated hardware and detail the enclosure and cable entries.

Adelaide owned. Adelaide installed.
The charger is the easy part. The install is what lasts.

The case for a home charger
Why install a home charger
Most EV charging happens at home. The quality of that setup defines the ownership experience.
Charge up to 10x faster
A 7kW wall charger adds around 40km of range an hour. A standard power point adds about 10km.
Run on your own solar
South Australia has some of the highest rooftop solar uptake in the country. Divert surplus into your car instead of exporting it for cents.
Safe, permanent wiring
Dedicated circuits, RCBO protection and load management replace extension leads and overloaded outlets.
Cheaper every kilometre
Scheduled overnight charging on your retailer's cheaper window usually costs far less than public DC fast charging — check your plan for the rate that applies to you.

FAQs
Questions before you book
How long does a home EV charger installation take in Adelaide?+
Most standard installations are completed in three to four hours. Installations that require a switchboard upgrade or a long cable run can take a full day.
Do I need three phase power?+
No. A single phase 7kW charger adds roughly 40km of range per hour, which covers overnight charging for almost every Adelaide household. Three phase 11kW or 22kW is worth it for high daily distances or two EVs.
Will my switchboard need upgrading?+
Only if it lacks capacity, space or modern protection. Older Adelaide homes often do. We assess your board before quoting so there are no surprises on installation day.
Can I charge from my solar?+
Yes. Solar-aware chargers divert surplus generation to your vehicle rather than exporting it, which is usually the cheapest energy you will ever put in your car.
Is the installation compliant and certified?+
Every installation is carried out by a licensed South Australian electrical contractor to AS/NZS 3000 requirements, and a certificate of compliance is issued on completion.
What does a home charger cost to install?+
It depends on the charger you choose, how far the cable has to run from the switchboard, and whether any switchboard work is needed first. We quote a fixed, itemised price before any work starts, so the number you approve is the number you pay.
Can a charger be installed in a strata townhouse or apartment garage?+
Usually yes, where you have an allocated private space. Body corporate approval is normally the longest part, so we supply the installation details and documentation the committee asks for. Requirements differ from scheme to scheme, so check your own by-laws.
Is an outdoor charger a problem in a coastal carport?+
Chargers we install are rated for outdoor use. In salt-air coastal locations such as Glenelg and Henley Beach we still choose a sheltered position where the layout allows, keep the unit out of driving rain and direct afternoon sun, and use suitable enclosures and cable entries.
